Easy and Colorful Valentine Crafts for Toddlers
Valentine’s Day is coming soon
next month. This special day is not only intended for adults but also for
everybody including toddlers. In this occasion, parents can teach their
children how to appreciate friends and family for the love they have given and
the happiness they have shared throughout the life. I am a mother of 3 years
old son and 5 years old little girl. I think, instead of celebrating Valentine’s
Day with a party, it will be much more meaningful if parents and children make
valentine crafts to be given to their friends and family. This activity is
enjoyable and it can develop their skill and creativity as wells. There are a
lot of valentine crafts for toddlers. For toddlers, parents should find
the easy and attractive ones so toddlers within short attention span will find
this activity interesting to do. This Valentine’s Day I plan to work together
with my children to make easy crafts. I hope the process of making the crafts
can develop their creativity and skill. When it is done, I will ask them to
give the crafts to their parents, friends, or grandparents. The idea of giving
something to their loved ones will teach them how to spread the generous love.
I think this is going to be the best way to introduce Valentine’s Day for
toddlers.

This Valentine’s Day will be
first time to make crafts with my children. Since it is the first experience, I
tried to look for information about valentine crafts for toddlers from
books, magazines, and internet. From the search I found a lot of articles about
it. I learn that creativity projects for toddlers should match their skill
levels. In addition, children in their age only have short attention span, for
about 10 up to 15 minutes. Therefore, you should choose a craft project which
is easy and it does not need long time to finish making the craft. For your
information, toddlers are easy to get bored. When it happens, they will not
eager anymore to work on the crafts. To keep their attention and motivation,
the crafts should be interesting. As toddlers like something colorful, try to
include some bright colors which are also identical with Valentine’s Day such
as pink, red, green, etc. Usually children love these colors.
Although you have chosen easy valentine crafts for toddlers to make, your little kids may still find it difficult
to do. Do not ever force them to finish the craft themselves. Instead, help
them to work on the creativity project. Toddlers will lose their interest if
they can’t accomplish the project. It is true that you should encourage them to
work themselves. But, whenever they get confused or make mistakes, you must
lend a hand. Do not ever blame them for mistakes. Instead, praise them for what
they have done. It will increase their confidence that they can make the
crafts. Another important thing to consider is the safety matter. Make sure
that the materials used for making the project do not contain harmful or
poisonous elements. Some children are just too sensitive towards certain
materials. For instance, my little boy just can’t stand the smell of particular
glue. So, I never use that glue as it can ruin the activities. Moreover, do not
ask them to cut paper using scissors themselves. My daughter who has been 5
years old perhaps can start using this tool for her creativity project, but not
my 3 years old son. Make sure everything that needs to be cut out with scissors
must be done already. This activity will be more joyous if more kids are
willing to join. You can invite other children in your neighborhood if you want
to. In this way, the children will have their own event for the upcoming
Valentine’s Day.

Crafts for valentine do not to be
complicated as they are for toddlers. There are many simple crafts that
resemble Valentine’s Day. The most popular idea is hand print heart. It is just
very simple to do. You can work first by drawing a heart shape in a white
paper. You should also prepare the paint in the paint plates (let your toddler
choose their favorite color). Ask your toddler to dip his hand in the paint and
press it on the heart-shaped paper. When the paint dries, it can be hung on the
wall or given to his close friend. It is very easy right? This project is
intended for children below 3 years old. I think my son will like it. But I
still have some other ideas. My favorite one is heart glasses. This wearable
art project is another easy project for Valentine’s Day. First of all, cut out
two heart shapes and give the middle cut out for the glasses frame. Ask the
children to decorate the heart shapes with the materials you have prepared for
example small craft foam, crayons, or glitter glue. After they finished
decorating the hearts, glue the two hearts and attach pipe cleaners to the
hearts so that children can wear it like wearing actual glasses.

The project can’t be either too difficult
or too easy. For my 5 year old little girl, I should find a craft which is more
challenging. I think she will love the idea of making a treasure heart box.
There are a lot of unused shoe boxes at home. We can make use of one of it. As
my girl enjoys painting very much, she can paint the box with non-hazardous
tempera paint and decorate it with hearts, glitter glue, and bows. On the
Valentine’s Day the box can be filled up with candy hearts and she will bring
the box throughout the day and give the candies for the people she meets. What
a nice idea it is. For more ideas of valentine crafts for toddlers, you
can browse the Internet where there are countless sources about it.
